We all know that being active is good for us, but it's not always easy to stay motivated. This is where staying active with a friend comes in!

It's Fun!

Staying active with a friend reduces the likelihood of boredom. You're getting healthier together as you laugh, catch up, and support one another. It's not "me" time...it's "we" time!

Talking to a friend while you work out or during your breaks will also help the time go by faster.

A Workout Buddy Is Your Best Accountability Tool

Meeting a friend for a walk or signing up for a fitness class together increases the likelihood that you will actually go through with your plans. One of the best reasons to show up for your workout is the fear of disappointing your workout buddy.

And after you and your workout partner establish a flow, you'll both find it easier and more likely to maintain your fitness routine.

Working Out With A Friend Is A Powerful Source Of Inspiration

You're more likely to push yourself when you work out with a buddy than you would exercising by yourself.  For example, you might increase the speed of your workout or lift heavier.

A little friendly competition amongst friends will push you to work harder. When you notice your friend "kick it up a notch" it will be just the push you need in that moment to keep going and vice versa!

You Are More Likely To Reach Your Goals

Having the support of another person can be crucial in the process of reaching your goals.  In fact research has found that individuals are more likely to lose weight if their exercise partner is losing weight.

But please don't forget... even if you are not losing weight, staying active should be your main objective.

Active lifestyle choices have been shown to enhance cognitive function, aid in weight management, lessen disease risks, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve overall physical mobility. Yay!

You Are Safer

You're a runner, on your early morning run, wearing your headphones lost in the rhythm of the run and your favorite tunes. In this scenario, you are alone and completely unaware of your surroundings, thus vulnerable to becoming a victim of an accident or an attack.

You significantly lessen the likelihood of a mishap when you go for a run or walk with a companion. You have a friend who can assist you in the event of an accident or an injury.

If you're considering pushing yourself during your weight training sessions, a friend can assist you in "spotting" yourself through the final few challenging repetitions of your set. When lifting large weights, it's far safer to work out with a partner and prevents injuries for both of you.

Thank you to all my training friends! You've made reaching my fitness goals fun and empowering!
